What’s life without great food and sweet drinks? Life would be stale, that’s what. Good food and drinks are some of the most important things in life, especially if they are prepared in a unique and exotic way.

Whether for festivities, events, or even simple gatherings, we all look forward to seeing and tasting the delicacies to be offered. When you start drooling even before you start eating, when you have your taste buds tickled after only a single bite, then you can’t help but agree food can be something truly special.

The main reason tasting food is so fundamental is because it preps the body for what’s to come. It tells the mind, “good food is coming, so ready the body for it.” Take this for example. When we taste and see food, this taste or sight provokes a reaction that leads to secretion of saliva and other juices within the stomach. So even before we start eating, our bodies are already preparing. The myriad of exciting flavors and the benefits we can derive from food are more reasons we have made food tasting a happy habit. It becomes more popular every day. Listed below are certain facts on “Why Food and Drink Tasting Are So Popular.” Learn more about food tastings, click here.

Rise in Popularity of Wine Tasting

There has been a steep rise in the popularity in wine tasting, especially in countries like the United States. The Wine Institute reported in 2013 that Americans consumed 2.82 gallons of wine per capita.

This rise in popularity can be attributed to many factors, one of which is Americans love to dine and eat outside; in restaurants and pubs, which of course serve more wine than would normally be stocked in homes. Advertisements of TV is another factor that contributed to wine tastings popularity. These and more mediums make people embrace wine as something that compliments food, making wine yet even more popular. Learn more about wine tasting, click here.

Smell and Taste

These two senses are at the core of determining how tasty or tasteless what we smell and eat are, but naturally, there is greater reliance on taste than smell. Taste itself is one of the five senses of the body. It is a sensation produced through chemical reactions between substances in the mouth and taste receptors. This is what enables us to determine the numerous flavors of food like saltiness and sweetness, among others.

Just as the tongue has taste receptors, the nose also has olfactory receptors. These receptors pick up fragrances or odorants and transmit them to the brain for identification. Not all of these odorants can be identified by the receptors though, because the nose might not have a receptor for that particular odorant. If that is the case, then the nose doesn’t smell anything at all.

So even though smell also helps in determining what food might taste like, taste exerts a greater effect, thus being a more potent factor in helping us make a choice on what we want to eat or drink. Smell and taste are relevant they use diverse set of receptors to identify food or drink.

This old, humorous adage gives you an idea of how wonderful food is. Food can be so delightful you won’t know when you start asking for second and third helpings. Eating good food only intensifies the feeling of pleasure in you, sparking more positive emotions and making you wish the taste could last even longer. Conversely, there are so many health benefits associated with eating and food tasting.

  • For one, eating slowly prolongs the taste of the food in your mouth.
You can do this by utilizing certain utensils. For example, use a small fork when eating salad; but why should you do this? You do this because eating with a small fork will force you to take small bites and thus slow your eating, which leads to better digestion and a healthier meal.

  • Another way food consumption can make you healthier depends on the type of food itself.
Take chocolate for instance. Chocolate is filled with processed sugar and this is unhealthy for the body. Research by scientists has proven this to be true. Taking sugar in small amounts doesn’t pose much risk to health but consuming it in large amounts and over a prolonged period is very detrimental to health. It can lead to energy loss, diseases and even mood swings, believe it or not. This is where food tasting helps.

  • If you taste and eat chocolate slowly, taking your time and relishing in the sweetness, you do away with any issues that might wrack your health. The foods can also be natural, like fruits. If that is the case, then try to take fruits that don’t have tough skins or peels that need to be removed before eating.

  • Sometimes, food that has been infused with vitamins or minerals-also known as nutraceutical food- is the better choice. The WHO (World Health Organization) even approves such foods because of how they lead to betterment of health. These few points are enough to make you understand why food and tasting food are necessary for better health and growth.

A Craving and Desire for Satisfaction

One of the most effective ways of deciding on what to eat is to taste all the foods present and then see what sets your taste buds afire the most. Numerous malls and stores permit tasting before actually purchase of the food. The foods can range from treats, to desserts, to pastries and so much more.

The Economic Advantages of Tasting

We all love eating the best kind of foods, but most of us can’t afford them, walking around with empty pockets. This is more a burden on those who like exotic and expensive foods than people who can manage with more common and less expensive foods. Those who want these exotic foods but can’t afford them find a solution in the form of food tasting, because they get to know what these foods taste like without actually paying for the whole meal or drink. Smart idea, right?
