St. Louis locals have a unique way of celebrating Halloween -- by telling jokes, and we’re serious about this! St. Louis Public Radio reported that this has been a tradition among locals in the city with children. Listening to a collection of jokes that have been passed on from back in history is something this city is known for.

This type of Halloween celebration is said to have begun in the Depression era “to tamp down on tomfoolery.” The report added, “It ran on the logic that if you distracted children with the task of coming up with a joke in exchange for their candy, they might decide not to smash the pumpkins on your porch.”

We challenge you to come up with some jokes in any of the Halloween activities listed below. Social Scene has prepared a set of activities that you can enjoy while you’re in the city. No joke, indeed.
