#1: Authentic tequila only comes from Mexico.

Tequila derived its name from the small town of Tequila. The city is located in the valley which is west part of Guadalajara in Jalisco, Mexico. Mexican laws mandate that tequilas must only be produced in the region of Jalisco with few municipalities included. Many countries such as the United States, Canada, Japan, Israel and the European Union recognize and agree that tequila is an original Mexican product.

#2: It takes 8 to 12 years to harvest tequila.

Tequila is produced from blue agave plant or the agave azul tequilana weber. The Jimadors (Mexican farmers) diligently grow and carefully cultivate the agave plants. Through generations of experience, the Jimadors expertly know when the agaves are ripe for harvesting which usually takes place after eight to twelve years. During harvest, the piña, which looks like a colossal pineapple, is cut from its stalk using a sharp tool called coa. Truckloads of piña are then transported to distilleries for the production of tequila.

#3. A shot of pure tequila provides excellent health benefits.

According to experts, drinking tequila after a full meal aids the digestive process due to inulin, which is highly present in agave plants. Inulin is a substance that helps grow good bacteria in the stomach. Thus, food is easily digested and absorbed by the body.

Moreover, the fructans in agave plants help boost the number of bifidobacteria and lactobacilli, which are useful bacteria in the large intestines.

On top of that, it was also found out that the agavins, a kind of sugar contained in tequila can cause weight loss.

#4. A tequila bottle is a record holder.

Did you know that a bottle of tequila was sold for $225,000 according to The Guinness Book of World Records in 2006?  The most expensive tequila bottle, which was made out of white gold and platinum, was sold to a private collector. One-of-a-kind six-year-old tequila that cost about $2,500 was also contained in the particular bottle.

#5. Tequila can be used to make synthetic diamonds.

Recent studies conducted by a team of scientists from the National Autonomous University in Mexico discovered that tequila possesses the right 40 percent of alcohol to make diamond films. The nano-sized films are far from becoming jewelry, but ongoing experiments are geared towards creating a new type of semiconductor that will be beneficial to electronic industries in the future.
