Vail entrepreneurs Ryan Thompson and Christian Avignon brought life into the 10th Mountain Whiskey & Spirit Co. Before founding the distillery, Ryan embraced the mountain lifestyle and operated a successful restaurant. Christian’s grandfather was part of the original Mountain soldiers, thus giving the distillery its name.

It won double gold in the 2017 Las Vegas Global Spirits Competition and gold at the North American Whiskey and Bourbon Competition, as well as silver at the Denver International Spirits Festival. Meanwhile, it acquired the bronze medal at the 2018 Great American International Spirits Competition for the American Rye Whiskey category. The Rye scored 94 points in Jim Murray's 2018 Whiskey Bible rating.
